How to get your first 1000 users?

Hi, I'm about to launch my MVP, and I was wondering if you guys could share how you got your first 1000+ users. Thanks!

One really good way is just to post it on Hacker News, Reddit, and other forums that your early adopters may hang out at.

Another great way is to find a media or publisher that has content closely related to your product, and ask them to write about it, or ask them to see if you can put a banner there (for free).

Generally, a few tips:

1. Real time communication + referrals - Talk to your customers/users individually. You'll be surprised how many people they will refer to you if you ask them.

2. Social Media sucks - Content get shared a lot on Facebook, but if you are trying to sell something, it won't do very well.

3. Hard work + Ask - You know...marketing is all about working hard at...asking. Keep asking people. If you are proud of your product, then keep asking people to buy it or help you.
