Review My Idea: Review Social Network

Don't you think the static product reviews on the internet don't answer your doubts most of the time? There's so many different kinds of users and most product reviews don't really answer what I really care about. If you could actually talk real time with people who own the product that you want to buy, wouldn't that be awesome?

My team and I are thinking about building a review social network where people can post the products that they own, so that other people can reach out and ask them about it. People who help answer these review questions will get feedback. We gamify these feedback points into discounts they can get at sponsored brands.

What do you guys think about the idea?

I think engadget.com managed to do the whole review thing really well, so much so they are now owned by AOL. Look at IMDB.com as well for ideas, its so good that I actually wont go see a movie if it doesn't score at least 6.0 or so. After checking out the star rating I briefly skim over the comments to get an idea of how other users found the movie experience. Also look at what amazon.com has done with their books, I know a book is good when there are 500+ reviews, I then look at how many stars the book achieved. This is all autonomous behavior, which I have only recently discovered that I am doing. So my 2c is this: The most successful combination of a review site is a combination of the following: A star rating system on a scale of 1 - 10, A count of the number of total reviews a product has, and Actual text written reviews by other users (The headline of a specific review is very important, as I base my decision on whether to read the review on this - see amazon review comments for books for instance) so - combine those three is an interesting way and I think you have a good product. - Shaun

Sorry I just got your reply. I do think there are a lot of review websites out there. However, if in terms of products with more features, I feel like I want to actually be able to ask someone about their experience with the product. I often cannot find the right features I want to find. Movies and books are straightforward, because it's just content. However, products, and stuff like cell phones can all have a lot of different functions and features that I think I would care to understand better.
